Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital Dedicated to Reducing ER Wait Times, Providing Quality Care

While the national average waiting time to see a physician in the emergency room is 56 minutes, the goal at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital’s Emergency Department is for patients to see a health care professional in 30 minutes or less from the time of arrival. In fact, most patients with minor medical emergencies are treated in the ER’s ExpressCare unit in less than 70 minutes from arrival to discharge.* This drive to reduce waiting time is occurring even when the number of patients has increased nationwide. According to a study recently released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of visits to physician offices and hospital outpatient and emergency departments increased by 26 percent from 1996 to 2006.

“We understand that long wait times in the emergency room can be frustrating and uncomfortable,” says Michelle Pate, Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital. “That’s why medical care is provided by registered nurses, in-house paramedics and emergency medicine physicians who work side by side to provide fast, patient-focused emergency care. We also have ready access to advanced equipment and technology that are vital in an emergency situation when every second counts.”

The Emergency Department at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital provides treatment for a wide range of medical emergencies. To care for the community’s high pediatric patient population, the hospital’s ER has a child-friendly waiting room and dedicated pediatric treatment rooms. As an Accredited Chest Pain Center, the hospital has staff specially trained to treat patients experiencing a heart attack or stroke.

“We want people to see us as an emergency room, not a waiting room,” says Pate. “They spend enough time sitting in traffic or waiting in line at the grocery store. When patients come to us in an emergency situation, we are able to provide appropriate medical care quickly and treat each patient as we would a member of our own family.”

Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital is in-network with more than fifty insurance plans, freeing patients from the concern of unexpected charges. Instead of worrying about future medical bills, patients can focus instead on receiving quality medical attention and getting healthy.
