Free event teaches women about self breast care and how to select the right bra  

Women age 40 and older are invited to a free, private breast self-exam consultation and bra fitting session hosted by Cypress Fairbanks Women’s Imaging Center. The event will be held on Saturday, August 16, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Women’s Imaging Center. The center is conveniently located in Suite 340 of the Cy-Fair Professional Building II at 11307 FM 1960 West on the north side of the Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital campus. Women will meet with a registered technologist to discuss one-on-one how to perform breast self-exams, and consultants will be on-site to provide complimentary, private bra fittings for all figure types.            

The American Cancer Society recommends that women have a mammogram and clinical breast exam every year after age 40. Women also should perform monthly breast self-exams. A properly fitting bra helps keep breasts supported during physical activities and can prevent injury to breast tissue. Well-fitting bras also are important for posture, especially for women with large breasts.
