Diagnostic Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Capabilities
MRI is a non-invasive procedure that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to construct pictures of the body. A powerful magnet generates a magnetic field roughly 10,000 times stronger than the natural background magnetism from the earth. A very small percentage of hydrogen atoms within a human body will align with this field.
When focused radio wave pulses are broadcast towards the aligned hydrogen atoms in tissues of interest, they will return a signal. The subtle differences in that signal from various body tissues enables MRI to differentiate organs, and potentially contrast benign and malignant tissue.
Faster, Shorter and More Comfortable Scanning Techniques
The Imaging Department at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital performs fast scanning techniques and advanced imaging with a Philips Gyroscan Intera 1.5T (Intera) unit. The Intera features a comfortable, open environment that may help reduce patient anxiety. The magnet accommodates very large and claustrophobic patients, while also providing benefits of super conducting magnet technology. For some exams, the patient’s head is actually outside the scanner. The new patient-friendly features such as the wide patient opening, music entertainment, soft patient mattress with a headrest, and reduced noise help improve patient comfort and makes it easier to scan children and senior citizens, who may be nervous about entering an MRI scanner.
The Intera offers shorter scan times and improved non-invasive techniques. The Intera does not require the patient to be scanned for a long time to achieve acceptable image quality. The Intera provides the benefit of open system comfort with high quality image output.
The Intera provides full body imaging protocols for neurology, abdomen and pelvis applications, head & neck MR angiography, and body MR angiography. The unit is also capable of orthopedic MR scans for extremities and spines.
Enhanced Customer Experience
At Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital, our goal is to provide the best quality MR experience for our patients. From the private interview lounge to the complimentary integrated conventional therapies including aromatherapy and soothing music, the friendly and compassionate staff are here to meet your needs.
Non-invasive CT Scanning Solutions
A "CT" or "CAT" scan is the term used to describe a radiologic test known as "computerized tomography" (or computed axial tomography). The CT scanner uses advanced x-ray technology to take pictures of cross-sections of your body, called "slices." CT can see inside the brain and other parts of the body.
Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center offers advanced CT solutions using the new GE LightSpeed 16 that uses 16-slice technology and has the power to complete scans more quickly.
The scanner is designed to reduce unnecessary radiation doses especially in smaller patients like pediatrics. Based on the Broselow-Luten® Pediatric System, GE’s exclusive Color Coding for Kids is designed to help minimize doses to the pediatric patient because it is able to use scan protocols that are color-coded according to each child’s weight and size.
Integrated PET/CT Imaging
PET/CT imaging services are now available at the Cypress Fairbanks Urgent Care Center, a part of the Cy-Fair Regional Health Network.
Integrated PET/CT imaging combines the strengths of two established technologies into one session. Along with providing better imaging data, this combination of PET and CT in one non-invasive scan notably increases patient comfort and convenience by reducing the scanning time.
Unique clinical imaging modality to detect and quantify metabolic changes in the body
Allows for the diagnosis, staging and restaging of cancer patients
Radiologists available for same day results
Conveniently located in the community
to schedule a PET/CT.
The CT scanner is also able to perform Cardiac Scoring that is a study designed to identify plaque build-up in the heart and help determine heart disease. CT makes it possible to diagnose certain diseases earlier than with some other imaging tools. Because most diseases are better treated when found early, CT scans can help save lives.
Identifying Strokes Sooner Helps Promote Better Patient Outcomes
A person with a suspected stroke must be given immediate medical attention. It is during the critical first 3 to 6 hours following stroke that today's growing stroke therapy options are better. Medical imaging is a critical component in determining the course of stroke treatment. At Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital, strokes can be identified more quickly with perfusion technology. This immediate medical diagnosis can help minimize the severity of permanent brain damage (neurological disability).
Virtual Colonoscopy - A New Screening For Colon Cancer
Colon cancer is among the most common diagnosed cancers in America, but it is highly preventable if detected early. Unfortunately, the discomfort of traditional colonoscopy can be a deterrent to regular screening. At Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital, our technology provides a 3-D virtual fly-through of the colon that reduces the discomfort without sacrificing image quality. Virtual Colonoscopy is performed quickly and without sedation allowing physicians to examine the colon for abnormalities.
